Ford EcoBoost® engines give more power and reduce fuel consumption than conventional engines by combining three technologies: turbocharging, direct fuel injection and Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT), to provide power and efficiency.
This means a highly responsive ride and exceptional overall performance.
The successful performance of the Ford EcoBoost® engine lies in a combination of direct Fuel Injection and Turbocharging, in addition to the independent variable timing double camshaft or Ti-VCT that completes the innovation.
The Ford Vehicle's Direct Injection System gives a precise amount of finely vaporized fuel directly into the combustion chamber to maximize power output.
The exhaust energy from the Ford EcoBoost® engine enables the turbine to turn, which would otherwise be wasted. The turbine connects to a compressor that pressurizes the air entering the combustion chambers, instantly generating a surge of power when needed, significantly increasing fuel efficiency.
The Ti-VCT system adjusts the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves continuously, during the operation of the Ford EcoBoost® engine. The timing is controlled to maximize torque and power at maximum demand and to minimize fuel consumption during part load operation.
