Aluminum-Alloy Body and Steel Frame

Aluminum-Alloy Body and Steel Frame

  • Class-exclusivef150-features-durability cab and box fabricated from high-strength, military grade, aluminum alloys.
  • Fully boxed frame with eight crossmembers (five through-welded) made of up to 78 percent 70,000-psi high-strength steel (up from 23 percent in the 2014 F-150 frame); up to 60 lbs. lighter with state-of-the-art roll-forming process that minimizes weight.
  • Vehicle weight up to 700 pounds lighter than before resulting in better fuel efficiency, greater towing and payload capacities, improved power-to-weight ratio for faster acceleration, enhanced handling and braking responsiveness.

Durable Safety Structure

We used strength-proven materials and subjected them to over 10 million miles of cumulative testing to make this next-generation F-150 the most durable and capable ever. With its high-strength military-grade, aluminum-alloy body and high-strength steel frame, the F-150 underwent extensive computer test simulations and crash testing to help ensure its structural integrity in front, side, rear and rollover impacts. We improved upon the 2015 F-150 occupant protection equipment by adding class-exclusivef150-features-durability available inflatable rear safety belts that help distribute crash force energy across more of the torso than the traditional safety belt. And the F-150 is engineered with active safety features such as AdvanceTrac®with Roll Stability Control™, Curve Control1 and Trailer Sway Control systems.

We Tested the F-150 Tough

Over 10 million cumulative miles of testing made it possible to build our new F-150 stronger and more durable than any previous generation of this iconic pickup truck. We torture-tested prototypes in labs, at our Ford proving grounds, over high-altitude passes and through desert valleys, while hauling huge loads and towing heavy trailers at temperature extremes from -20 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. We then built production prototypes and subjected them to the same brutality.

You Tested the F-150 Tough

We’re not the only ones who tested the toughness of the new F-150. We put F-150s in the hands of people like you, people working in some of the most demanding industries. These seasoned truckers really know how to take a pickup to the extremes of durability – and they did just that with the new F-150.
